Ethical Advertising for Holistic Practitioners Not that long ago, advertising was actually illegal for many professions, including attorneys, doctors, and psychotherapists. Even since it has become legitimate, very few schools include classes in marketing. Mostly, we get information on law and ethics, and many practitioners are quite tentative about how to promote themselves in a positive, ethical, and productive manner – without violating some unclear law or guideline. This presentation will offer a variety of ways for holistic and alternative practitioners to promote their practices on the internet, in print, and in the community. The presenter will share her own marketing strategies and successes as examples. Speaker Jaelline Jaffe, PhD, has been a licensed MFT since 1976 (when advertising of services was not allowed!). In recent years, she has taken dozens of classes in marketing and related topics. Since 2005, she has received about 95% of her business through her website www.LemonAidCounseling.com – which is one of only 15 businesses featured in a new book, Branding Basics for Small Business by Maria Ross. She and her colleague, Linda Arbiter, MFT, conduct monthly marketing seminars for therapists and other private practice people.
